Rockhurst High School has installed Kansas City’s largest photovoltaic solar system, the school says.
The 220-panel system was designed by Brightergy Solar, a local company for renewable energy. Adam Blake, one of the company’s owners, is a 2003 graduate of Rockhurst and a contributor to the project costs.
The new system will produce 67,500 kilowatt hours per year, which is the carbon-reducing equivalent of planting 240 trees, eliminating five households’ power use for a year, or taking 20 cars off the road for 30 years. The school expects to save at least $7,000 this year in energy costs.
