The move will enhance the company’s ability to provide holistic energy analysis to its business and nonprofit clients, acting as an outsourced energy department.
Kansas City, MO – August 29, 2014 – A deal was finalized this month for Brightergy to acquire the Supply-Side Division of Acumen Energy Solutions, a firm based in Overland Park, KS.
The acquisition marks the formation of a new department within Brightergy for Management of Electrical Power and Gas; Acumen’s former supply-side team members, clients, and processes are being fully integrated into Brightergy. The move will enhance the company’s ability to provide holistic energy analysis to its business and nonprofit clients, acting as an outsourced energy manager.
These energy management experts help companies around the country create budget certainty by minimizing the impact of escalating energy costs and managing risk. Electrical power and gas energy management involves understanding energy costs—and the numerous, variable factors affecting those costs—and identifying opportunities to purchase commodities at a value price.
“The expertise of our new energy management team members is a major reason for this acquisition,” said Brightergy CEO Adam Blake. “We are our clients’ partner in energy. To date, we’ve focused on capital projects that enable clients to take control, create their own energy, and reduce energy consumption. This deal furthers our goal of being able to offer comprehensive energy intelligence, analysis, and risk management.”
Brightergy has built its clients base and business to date primarily through the financing, development, and installation of rooftop solar-energy projects. With over 1,000 commercial projects, the volume they have seen has led them to become one of the largest commercial rooftop solar companies in the country.
In Q4 2013, the company announced a strategic alliance with global engineering firm Black & Veatch, as well as a partnership with Capstone Turbine Corporation to be the exclusive distributor of Capstone MicroTurbines in Missouri and Kansas. The company introduced energy efficiency financing and projects in 2013.
For clients, the combination of these energy services under one roof, combined with Brightergy’s custom financing, is a unique value proposition. Businesses and nonprofits can have access to digestible energy intelligence, which they can then use to make informed decisions about how to have more control over their energy costs—whether its by working with power and gas management experts to navigate energy market changes, or by investing in a capital energy project (solar, natural gas microturbines, energy efficiency) to generate or reduce their own energy needs.
