KANSAS CITY, Mo – A local alum is giving back to his alma mater in a big way. Twenty-five-year-old entrepreneur Adam Blake is donating some green (cash) to help Rockhurst High School go green with renewable energy. Blake, who owns Brightergy, is a company specializing in solar panel installations. He is converting the rooftop of Rockhurst into a sun haven. Blake said, “Sunlight hits solar panels in the form of direct current energy and it travels to inverters to convert alternate current energy. From there it goes directly to power their classrooms”. The panels should produce about $7000 dollars worth of electricity for the high school each year. “This was an easy way to give back. Anything we can do to help promote the awareness and technology of solar is what we’re all about”, added Blake.
Blake gave $100,000 dollars to fund the project. High school president Reverend Terrence Baum described Blake as a true Rockhurst role model. “We cannot function without the generosity of our alumni who support the school. Adam has done it through the generosity of his gift and vision. Our young people need to see alumni giving back to the community so that they can make a difference” said Baum. The solar panels are expected to last between 30 to 50 years.
