108 Solar Panels Installed at Manufacturing Facility
KANSAS CITY, MO – November 8, 2011 – SCD Probiotics, a global bioscience manufacturing plant of probiotics, has installed a 25 kW solar electrical generation system on their facility near downtown Kansas City in the Paseo West District.
According to Matt Wood, CEO, the decision to add solar energy was easy given both economic incentives and the firm’s belief in environmental stewardship.
“Part of our decision was influenced by KCP&L rebates that make this a very attractive investment with a quick payback,” said Wood. “More importantly, it’s the right thing to do on many levels.”
The 25 kW system, designed and installed by Brightergy Solar, consists of 108 solar panels and is simply ballasted (weighted) on the rooftop – requiring no roof penetrations. Photos of the system can be seen on SCD Probiotic’s website, www.scdprobiotics.com.
The system will produce about 33,000 kilowatt hours per year. It is the pollution reducing equivalent to taking 10 cars off the road for 30 years.
Wood added that investing in Kansas City’s inner city both by rehabbing and expanding their existing manufacturing facility and adding solar energy, is consistent with their beliefs and values. “We are passionate about our cutting edge bioscience work and excited about the addition of state-of-the-art clean, renewable energy to our rooftop,” said Wood.
